Alternative ERI 2007: Your Commentaries

A selection of the commentaries given in our survey. Comments who would have allowed to identify the respective author were slightly shortened.

I've always been a very peaceful, laid back person. I'm a big guy and would always step in the middle of a fight to convince all parties that violence is not the answer. Then I got a job at UPS and felt the evil tactics of management. Now, if I should see a fight, I think to myself,"Some people really do need their asses beat....."

UPS ignores real concerns.

thank you for presenting the employees with a more honest survey. I'm not at all surprised to see that you folks in Germany get treated the same as us here in the States. "We do the impossible for the ungrateful" I wish you all the best! In Brotherhood, Tom

UPS has always been a difficult company to work for. You just get used to it to survive on the job. The appreciation comes from my customers!

When UPS bought out Lynx Express Parcels I thought and stated in my first ERI survey "Things can only get better with UPS at the helm" I was wrong. UPS lie cheat and are deceptive. If I did what they are doing I would be in prison.

Working for UPS shows that workers are only cost units and not human beings

I work with old outdated equipment that is tearing my body up with no change in sight. I am a long time UPSer and dream about the day that I can leave this company and go do a job that I can be proud of and have a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

After 22 years of service I can find very little good to say about them. What a shame.

i would like to see ALL employees get the same, ie WAGES, treatment.

ups eri is all bullshit i hope all upsers all over country wake up and take a stand this year and get informed and them know this is our year mto make a difference

I have never done an ERI; two reasons, one I have no confidence in it as a means of addressing workplace issues, and secondly I'm tired of hearing employees say that they are forced into doing it.

Still the "good old boy" management.

There are constant violations of seniority at ups regarding seniority, regarding job preference and extra work, the union is aware of it, and nothing is done.

I feel like UPS provides me a respectful career and not just a job. I dont care if sups get stock. They get the worries I get good pay and benefits.

I have worked at UPS a long time. I am absolutely appaled at the treatment that the management dishes out on the rank & file. UPS has no respect for the contract or the union. They constantly and consistently harass and try to intimidate the workforce. Morale is the worst I have ever seen it in 32 years.

UPS is a "Hostile Workplace"!

im a driver. out there every day .how could someone who does not know a thing about del. pkgs.try and dispatch.they never ever k\listen to the driver why?that is my question.how could they implement a new system "EDD" and not include the drivers, what a joke.

over all i like working at ups it is well paying ,well respected company. the company has been around for 100 years i feel that they have done somthing right. We get other perks other than stock like not alot of respnsibilty, less stress, and job security. thanks for the servey

Ups did not allow me to take the ERI last year. I believe it is because the wouldn't like what I had to say.

I dont care.I say that each morning before my start time.works for me.

At UPS you are a machine that should never breakdown or make a mistake

sorry if i'm too positive after 29 yrs with the company i guess if i weren't i would have gone elsewhere. best job i've ever had, and i've had a few before this one. just wrap up in the morning, head out and get the job done. no problems no troubles. thanks

There are some great benifits to working at UPS, but for the most part, after 30 years I have to say that working for Brown this long is the biggest mistake of my life. That won't be true for all, but for me... I was not physically or emotionally built to surive the beating and grief from my job. I have trouble walking and will have serious pain the rest of my life, mostly from injuries that UPS knew would happen sooner or later, but chose not to address until someone (me) was injured. The lies, lack of integrity, daily intentionally breaking of the contract, regular incorrect checks, harassment and in general all hourly employees being blamed for all that does not go according to IE's plan gets old and has worn me out. I will have to quite some time next year, both for my physical and mental health. The union is not much better, perhaps worse!

The company is only interested in Numbers. No stacking, just put it away. 25 yrs of loading cars, 12 yrs in the same cars and I am told I know nothing. New hires receive no quality training. Just get it in the car wherever it will fit. THe agreement on over 70's and irregs is crap. They are not sent at the end of the day as agreed, they come all day long and we're to load them, then trip over them in the car all day. Over 70's loaded the whole way in the front of the car. Faster, faster, faster. I feel bad for the way the loads are for the driver

Management goes out of it's way to avoid following the contract

if our local,191,would step up and make our hub comply with the laws of our contract,we would have a much better work environment.

My responses on this survey reflect my experience in the package division. Things have been MUCH, MUCH better since I've moved to feeders.

I finally retired this year after pesistent harassment from my immediate manager. If I hadn't had 25 years in, I would have filed a lawsuit.

We recently have been told that unexpected abscences(sick calls) will be met with a warning letter for unreliability. Two fellow drivers were given one last week even though one had a doctors prescription filled and had 7 sick days on the book. We feel that an unsafe work environment will result from people working when they should not be there. We also question the legality of this move.

I have worked for UPS for X years. X years as unionized, X as various and very integrated management person. I utilized the Employee Assisstance Program for my mental problems that only developed after I started working there, and I am finally finding that the treatment of myself and others at UPS is the cause of my (...) problems. Also, I am a woman and suffer a great deal of degradation from the men I work with every day.

CHSP is a fraud.safety is a joke.the union is a sellout.PCM`s dont make sense.LP doesn`t work, it`s blind and stupid.Management is a FREAK show in the day and a HORROR show at night. and that`s NO JOKE.It`s almost PEAK SEASON AGAIN:<( FUCK UPS!!!

i remember when we delivered boxes now all you get rammed down your throat is saftey.work faster but work safe, your not doing enough but work safe you got hurt cause you dont work safe, not cause we became a moving company instead of a small parcel delivery co.8 more to go then they can suck my sack

I use to like my job. But last year they put me though HELL,now I can"t stand this managment team and what they stand for. They lie to us all the time and if they answer question, and really know don't the answer they'll tell some bullshit story to go along with it.I only got 5 to 6 years to go before I get out so I'm a lucky one.

it a hard place to work, you must be in a good union and know your contract to survive. Ups policy is to harass everyone that does not kiss ass. When you stand up and show balls they do not like it, if you stand up as a center and show balls the center manager gets a transfer! and believe me you will always have 20 ass kissing people to a center, you have to just find out who they are.

POOR MANAGEMENT COULD BRING THIS COMPANY DOWN IF THE TREND OF BEATING UP THE HOURLY WORKERS CONTINUE/25 YEAR PLUS UPSR

With the questions relating to Being Off Sick and ERI & Punishment none of the answers offered were how I would have chosen to reply, but in order to be able to submit a response I have selected the first available answer. The ERI survey is about as valuable as their training methods are relevant up to date and effective. I have always added my name at the bottom of the survey whenever I have completed it (and I am generally constructively critical), but have never had any comeback/feedback. What is the problem with union recognition in Germany? I had always thought that with worker participation at board level things were more progressive in Germany than in the UK.

I have been at UPS for 13 years, and I have hated working there since the day I started. I just moved to the reload shift so I could work as a clerk because loading a bulk area on the preload was about to physically kill me. I am a 47 yr. old woman. I have never heard of a company that treats employees so bad, and co-workers will literally stab you in the back in order to gain favor with management. We are like a pack of dogs fighting over a very ugly bone.

PAS sucks

Never have I encountered a group of individuals that LIE constantly as UPS managers and supervisors do. You name it, they lie to your face about it, including the "real" ERI. Then they scratch their noggins wondering why the attitude and loyalty of their employees is so bad. I'm sure the global ERI will somehow tick up another point this year...

THESE ERI'S HAVE & WILL CHANGE NOTHING!!!!

If you can possible help it...never work for uPS

Ups are very quick to criticise a driver, but if a driver does anything good they never ever praise them. Drivers at my centre are regulary sent out over dispatched bur if you try to raise this with them they are not interested, but if you have any NDA's or missed they make you feel as if you have committed mass murder or they will ask you to stay out and deliver them all by doing an acceptable amount of over time whatever that is. I have worked for Ups for 20 years and this year i am trying to find another job because i have become very disilusioned with the company putting more and more pressure on me every year. It is now effecting my family life.

mandatory overtime and continually being harassed about my performance has caused me not to give a damn about ups or myself.my supervisors dont care either.im tired of being told "you didnt plan".fuck the teamsters and ups.

whats the difference between a ups driver and a michael vick dog . the dog at lleast gets to die

i never meet pople who lie cheat and steal to get there way

I HAVE BEEN WORKING AT UPS FOR 19 YEARS. 5 OF THOSE 19 YEARS I HAVE BEEN FULL TIME.I FEEL THAT ALL FULL TIME EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE EQUAL AS ARE PART TIME EMPLOYEES. I MAKE ABOUT $5.00 LESS THAN MOST FULL TIME EMPLOYEES,AND I HAVE A MORE PHYSICAL JOB THAN SOME (CLERKS).I DON'T MIND WORKING HARD FOR A LIVING,BUT LET'S BE FAIR!!! P.S. SOME OF THE FULL TIMERS (CLERKS)HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN THERE AS LONG AS ME!!!!!

why doesn't this company realize if they put on more routes and put new pkg cars on the road they would lower the injury and accident rate? this would also let us get home to see our families more than once in a blue moon!!!

Friends don't let friends work at UPS

I have been approached recently because the company is having "a hard time retaining quality employees". In the business world, when you want quality, you have to pay for it. UPS refuses to pay for it. We are into peak season, and our sort is not fully staffed. We can not get enough part-time help. No one will do the work for the money UPS is willing to pay. It's that simple. At the current rate, we will be in big trouble in two weeks. But nothing will change. Until the company starts to fold, and its reputation becomes mud. And even then, it may continue to decline. The giant is falling.

Giving a report about what´s happening in the German hub I work in, I could repeat every single sentence of your comment. Except "The giant is falling" - I think he´s beginning to stumble and still has a chance to change. The latter, of course, is not very probable. Expecting the highest peak ever, they are still firing people here. Among those fired are "quality employees" who dared to get ill or injured during their first months at UPS or who dared to speak their mind.
